Welcome !

Welcome to the Official Website for BSA Troop 173, Parsippany New Jersey

Scouting makes a direct and positive impact on your community by teaching positive values and leadership skills to your son.  With over 50 Scouts, we are a very active and fun filled troop.  Troop 173 offers a wide range of activities and learning experiences for your child that focus on their continued growth as they progress through the program.  We strive to incorporate education, character building, growth, teamwork, and primarily FUN for our Scouts.  We are a "Family Friendly" troop that encourages Moms or Dads to attend our meetings, special events, and  camping trips so that everyone can experience the fun, together.

Troop 173 consists of boys primarily from Parsippany.  Due to our strength as a Troop and our family centered focus, we also draw from other nearby towns as well.

Survey - November Big Trip - Your response is requested

Posted on Sep 2 2021 - 11:46am
Parents:

Last June, the Patrol Leaders’ Council had voiced a preference for a trip to Washington D.C. during teacher’s convention break November 4-7. This is our traditional time for a “Big Trip” that includes locations steeped in American history and fun activities. Given the continuing concerns regarding Covid-19 exposure, health, and potential limitations/closures of attractions, we seek your sincere feedback for planning purposes.

Greenbar Scouts Complete Annual Planning

Posted on Aug 24 2021 - 8:26am

The members of the "Greenbar" completed a long weekend  of planning in Pennsylvania. Outgoing Senior Patrol Leader, Dylan Franz, handed off the ceremonial staff and bear to Alex Spada. A butter knife, forged at Philmont by Crew 701-AA-1, was added to the staff. A hat, formerly worn by Timmy Metcalf and left behind at a meeting, was added to the bear.

Welcome Back, Philmont Crew !!

Posted on Aug 14 2021 - 11:14am

Members of Troop 173 enjoyed a full 12 day Philmont trek as Crew 701-AA-1. At an average campsite elevation of 9,000 feet, our trek put the high in high-adventure.

Crew Heads to Philmont

Posted on Jun 29 2021 - 1:44pm

Three Adult leaders and nine Scouts are heading to the BSA high adventure base in Philmont New Mexico.  They will fly into Denver and stop along the way to acclimate to the higher elevations, and be gone for 10 days including the highlight - a backcountry trek for which the Crew has trained many months!  Best wishes for an Excellent Adventure, and special thanks to Crew Advisors Mike Catapano, Dave Franz, and Matt Rankel!
