Welcome !

Welcome to the Official Website for BSA Troop 173, Parsippany New Jersey

Scouting makes a direct and positive impact on your community by teaching positive values and leadership skills to your son.  With over 50 Scouts, we are a very active and fun filled troop.  Troop 173 offers a wide range of activities and learning experiences for your child that focus on their continued growth as they progress through the program.  We strive to incorporate education, character building, growth, teamwork, and primarily FUN for our Scouts.  We are a "Family Friendly" troop that encourages Moms or Dads to attend our meetings, special events, and  camping trips so that everyone can experience the fun, together.

Troop 173 consists of boys primarily from Parsippany.  Due to our strength as a Troop and our family centered focus, we also draw from other nearby towns as well.

In case of any measurable snowfall, please be sure to shovel out the fire hydrant nearest to your home.  The minutes that saves in case of any fire emergency can make a BIG difference.

Thanksgiving Service Project - THANK YOU!

Posted on Nov 24 2022 - 8:10pm

Troop 173 will once again be assisting St. Christopher’s Church with their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.  We are asking for scouts and parents to volunteer their time for one or more of the masses listed below.  Scouts and Parents will meet at the front entrance of St. Christopher’s Church 20 minutes before each mass (or the time stated below) to begin assisting church patrons carrying their donations from their car.  Once Mass begins, we will bring those donations to the Church’s All Purpose Room to be sorted and boxed.  Each Scout and Parent that volunteers will receive community service hours.  Scouts should wear their Class A uniforms.

Can you find your way without your phone?

Posted on Oct 20 2022 - 9:26am

It turns out that many people are unable to follow maps anymore, yet that skill can be essential when a phone is not available. So the BSA includes Map & Compass/Orienteering activities  in its program - and those requirements are difficult to do at a regular Troop meeting.  We'd like to encourage all of our Scouts, but especially those NOT yet First Class to come to our November 11-13 campout at Quail Hill Scout Reservation in Manalapan NJ. There is an Orienteering course set up here that we can use to pass 1st Class requirement 4A.  If this troop activity does not fit into your schedule, there is a daytime activity available on October 30.   https://www.hvorienteering.com/2022-silas-map-adventureThe Silas Map Adventure is organized by Troop 277 - Kinnelon and the Hudson Valley Orienteering Club; however you will need to sign up for that in advance.  Questions? inquire at our next Troop meeting Oct 21.
