Welcome !

Welcome to the Official Website for BSA Troop 173, Parsippany New Jersey

Scouting makes a direct and positive impact on your community by teaching positive values and leadership skills to your son.  With over 50 Scouts, we are a very active and fun filled troop.  Troop 173 offers a wide range of activities and learning experiences for your child that focus on their continued growth as they progress through the program.  We strive to incorporate education, character building, growth, teamwork, and primarily FUN for our Scouts.  We are a "Family Friendly" troop that encourages Moms or Dads to attend our meetings, special events, and  camping trips so that everyone can experience the fun, together.

Troop 173 consists of boys primarily from Parsippany.  Due to our strength as a Troop and our family centered focus, we also draw from other nearby towns as well.

Klondike 2020 **WINNERS!!**

Posted on Feb 5 2020 - 6:28pm

Congratulations to Troop 173 Scouts who earned First Place in BOTH the Junior (led by Clark LaForteza) and Senior (Led by Aidan Waters -- age 14+)Scout category!   We also ran a second Senior team led by Jonah Lance which placed a respectable 5th.  There were 16 Junior and 17 Senior teams. The Youth Leaders worked VERY hard to make this happen; their focus and engaging with the team members really paid off.  Thanks also to the Adult Leaders and parents who staffed the Iditarod town as part of the competition.  We'll plan further recognition at the February 7 Troop meeting.

Troop 173 Earns **GOLD**!

Posted on Jan 30 2020 - 4:49pm

In the annual review of providing a quality program, Troop 173 has again earned the Gold (highest) designation in the BSA's Journey To Excellence Program.  This is made possible by having trained adult leaders who are following best practices in administering the Boy Scout Program.  Congratulations, and WELL DONE!!! A patch that can be worn on the uniform will be presented to uniformed members in the near future.

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who participated in our December Community Service Project, which took place at our Turkey Dinner on December 7.  The Scouts made over 60 paracord bracelets and wrote 40 thank you notes to Soldiers for Operation Gratitude.  The bracelets, which are used by our soldiers in emergency situations, and thank you notes will be included in care packages for deployed troops.  These were mailed out and will be included in their January care packages.
